We welcome you to Webster County Georgia and our home on the web. Webster County Is a small rural county in south west Georgia (see map)  and was formed on Dec. 16, 1853 from a portion of adjoining, Stewart County Georgia. Here you'll find a green country setting with a country lifestyle.The census of 2000 shows our county as having a total area of 210.3 square miles with a population of 2,390 with 453 of those citizens living inside the city limits of Preston. Although Webster County is small with a country lifestyle, it is centrally located to three larger cities (the smaller of the three having a population over 16,000) each with State Universities and Technical Colleges, and within thirty minutes to an hour drive from anywhere in Webster County. They are located in Americus, Albany, and Columbus Ga.

The topography of the county fades from rolling hills, valleys and large tracts of hardwoods and pines along with farmland in the north part of the county to a little flatter and more open farmland and wooded tracts in the southern part.

The entire county offers some great deer, turkey, quail, and dove hunting and is scattered with numerous farm ponds that hold bass, bream, and catfish as well as other species.

Agriculture and forestry are Webster County's primary industries and account for a large portion of the employment in the county. Other opportunities include convenience and grocery stores, service stations, school system, Merritt Pecan Co., Tolleson Lumber Company, Cooper Lighting tool & die shop, and other farm supply, service, and sales.

The quality of the country air, the warmth of neighbors, and a proud county-wide history found here are sometimes hard to imagine in today's fast-paced society.
